After CNN’s complaints regarding “fake news” after the election, it appears that one YMCA believes that the medium is fake enough to outlaw it from its tv sets.
As WBBM-TV reported, the Valparaiso Family YMCA in Valparaiso, Indiana, has decided to ban CNN from the televisions in their workout room a couple of days after then-President-elect Trump had his feud with CNN reporter Jim Acosta over the network’s report of the debunked, error-riddled “Trump dossier” that had been published by BuzzFeed.
“No, not you, your organization is terrible. Quiet. Quiet,” said Trump to Acosta during the conflict. “Don’t be rude. Don’t be rude. Don’t. Be. Rude. I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news.”
That was ample of what the Valparaiso Family YMCA needed, which issued a statement stating, “In order to eliminate perceived political bias associated with national news outlets, the Valparaiso Family YMCA will only be showing local news channels in the future.”
Some who used the YMCA were less than thrilled with the decision.
“To me, it’s blatant censorship that I find very surprising,” member of YMCA, Greg Quartucci said, according to WBBM. “The timing of this was very peculiar because I think it was basically a day or two after Mr. Trump claimed that CNN was fake news … I think they switched to the cooking channel.”
Progressives at news outlets like the Chicago Tribune are whining, but let’s look at the facts.
First of all, I’d like to point out that anyone who follows CNN to get themselves psyched up for a workout ought to consult their doctor, as this could be a rare but stern side effect of liberalism. If you require Anderson Cooper to get you pumped up for some cardio, there are definitely some issues at play.
Secondly, it’s not actually censorship, inasmuch as the YMCA is a private group that has decided to take CNN off its channel lineup. Considering the amount of controversy that the media outlet has collected in the last few years, it’s not hard to see why. After all, what misleading news have we seen from CNN?
It’s not only the Trump dossier. There’s the controversial and notorious report that seemingly called for Trump’s assassination, there’s the false report about Trump candidate Tom Price that it ran, there’s the narrative where CNN inflated a background checks statistic over 99,000% to make their case for stricter gun management.
