This is some fake news with real idiocy. The Associated Press reports that American high school graduates are flocking to Canadian colleges to escape living in a country with Donald Trump as president, which isn’t remotely true. They did dig up one liberal looney teen who says she is leaving the country for school because she’s afraid Trump’s presidency means she will get raped at a US university.

First, the fake news part. This is the actual AP headline:

College in Canada? After Trump’s win, more in US consider it

Followed by this blockbuster claim:

For some college-bound students distressed by the election of Donald Trump, Canada is calling.

Colleges from Quebec to British Columbia say applications and website traffic from the United States have been surging since Trump’s victory Nov. 8.

The AP then admits that Canadian colleges have been aggressively recruiting US students, making their headline and opening claim complete and utter bullshit:

But as Canada’s population ages, it is increasingly looking outside its borders for students. In 2014, the government announced plans to double the country’s number of foreign students by 2022. Many of the nation’s 125 universities have responded by stepping up recruiting in the U.S., promising students an international experience close to home.

As you can see, there isn’t a surge of US teens looking to flee Trump’s America, it’s just that Canadian colleges are putting more effort into attracting them. The fact that this story is billed as Americans trying to escape Trump’s presidency is dishonest and irresponsible journalism. At the very least if you’re going to post a headline that is a lie, don’t prove it’s a lie in the article.

The AP ties this to their fake reality by profiling exactly 2 students who are attending college in Canada. The first is…

…17-year-old Rebekah Robinson, of Baltimore, who had already visited the school and plans to enroll. She joked with her parents about escaping to Canada to flee Trump but said she sees that as just a bonus.

“I really liked the school. I liked the programs they offered, and I thought it was a great fit for me, so the president and the election just kind of played a small factor in it,” said Robinson.

Okay, so she isn’t really going to college in Canada to get away from Trump. That just leaves this lunatic:

Lara Godoff, a 17-year-old from Napa, California, said she scrapped any notion of staying in the U.S. the day after the election. Among other concerns, Godoff, a Democrat, said she fears Trump’s administration will ease enforcement of federal rules against sexual assault, making campuses less safe for women.

“If we live in a country where so many people could elect Donald Trump, then that’s not a country I want to live in,” said Godof.

So that’s it. The only thing to prove this AP story is a liberal girl who is afraid Trump will make it more likely that she will be raped if she attends college in the US. A better and more honest headline would have been: “Liberal Girl Cites Irrational Fears For Fleeing America.”
